Down Girl

The Logic of Misogyny

Kate Manne

Explore the complex topic of misogyny in public life and politics with this insightful book by moral philosopher and writer Kate Manne. Learn what misogyny truly means, who deserves to be called a misogynist, and how it differs from sexism. Manne argues that misogyny isn't just about hatred for women, but rather about controlling and punishing those who challenge male dominance. This book examines recent events, including the Isla Vista killings, the Daniel Holtzclaw case, Rush Limbaugh's attacks on Sandra Fluke, and Julia Gillard's "misogyny speech," which went viral. Discover how misogyny played a role in the 2016 US election and how it exonerates privileged men who silence women.

Anyway, lots to chew on here. And if you haven't yet, read Manne's book "Down Girl." I think it's one of a few essential texts for understanding politics (and American life) today.      source

@ConceptualJames @CHSommers @robertwrighter @philosophybites Hi James -- I praised Manne's book in my @NewYorker article and my interview with @philosophybites--and I particularly liked its rich critique of dehumanization theory. Instead of accusations of sexism, why not tell me where you think this critique (hers or mine) goes wrong?      source
