A detective sergeant in Edinburgh, Scotland spends the Christmas season indulging in drugs and sex in Amsterdam while dealing with a host of personal and professional problems. But when a racially charged murder case lands on his desk, his already chaotic life takes a turn for the worse in this scabrously funny novel about abuse and corruption. Welsh's writing, full of wit and force, creates a compellingly misanthropic character in this dark and disturbing story.
