You cannot understate what a bold and courageous speech this was from Douglass to make in front of the white liberal elite of America in 1876.
Just sheer Jeremiah-like honesty, sadness, and righteous indignation — but also empathy.
You just have to read the book. – source2023-01-01T07:31:31.000Z
@notcapnamerica The Frederick Douglass biography by David W. Bright. Incredible and actually one of the best books I’ve ever read. Can’t recommend it enough! – source2020-06-21T01:56:12.000Z
I’ve gotten into these obscenely long biographies of great Americans in the last year. Also loved Chernow’s Washington and the Frederick Douglass book by David Blight. Plan to dive into Hamilton by Chernow next. Other recommendations along these lines? – source
