Better Business Makes the Greater Good

Colin Mayer

Explore a new way of thinking about the role of corporations in Prosperity. Colin Mayer challenges the widely accepted idea that a business's sole purpose is to maximize shareholder profit, showcasing the damaging consequences of such a narrow objective. However, he also presents a positive new agenda for corporations that can promote economic and social well-being for all, not just shareholders. Drawing on various disciplines, including business, law, economics, and philosophy, Mayer offers insights for both corporations and policymakers to create a more successful and equitable business landscape. Discover a radical approach to business thinking in Prosperity.

Prosperity, by Oxford economist Colin Mayer, argues that “a corporation finds profitable solutions to the challenges of people and the planet,” Nadella explained. “The key word is ‘profitable,’ because we do know that capitalism does have the ability to allocate resources in the most efficient way. But the other key word is ‘the challenges of people and the planet.’ It’s not about creating more challenges to people and the planet but to have real solutions to the problems. I like that.      source
