Tragedy And Comedy book cover

Tragedy And Comedy

Walter Kerr

Explore the dual nature of tragedy and comedy in this insightful study of theater, from the classics of Aristophanes and Shakespeare to the modern works of Chekhov and Beckett. Written by former New York Times drama critic Walter Kerr, this book presents a new perspective on the two masks of theater, arguing that they represent the same face, reporting the same event. With a thoughtful and engaging approach, Kerr reevaluates the theater of the past and present, offering valuable insight for dramatists, literary theorists, and theater-goers alike.

A great book. The author's theory is that life is both a tragedy and a comedy. It's the fact that we are capable of reaching out to God and reaching out to the stars, but that we're always gonna fall short, that we're always going to die.      source
