Monsters
Barry Windsor-Smith
"Monsters" is a stunning graphic novel that delves into themes of trauma, fate, conscience, and redemption. Set in 1964, it follows the story of Bobby Bailey, a damaged and innocent young man who is unwittingly recruited into a secret U.S. government experimental program. As the titular monsters multiply, becoming real and metaphorical, the story reaches its emotional and moral reckoning. This is an ambitious and intense work, with breathtaking visuals and a narrative that spans generations of American history. It is surely one of the most sophisticated and powerful graphic novels ever drawn.

I was rooting for Barry Windsor-Smith to win all the Eisner love for MONSTERS, and he sure did. This book is strange, disturbing, dark, intense and unique. Can't recommend it enough. – fuente
