Stalingrado, la ciudad de Stalin, es famosa por la batalla que se libró en ella durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Diversos autores opinan que fue el punto de inflexión de la guerra; el momento y el lugar donde se detuvo la maquinaria bélica alemana, hasta el momento victoriosa e imbatible, y empezó la cruel cuesta abajo del III Reich. Fue, en pocas palabras; el principio del fin.
Anthony Beevor narra la épica desde la óptica de ambos bandos, y para ello se apoya en su investigación sistemática de los archivos rusos y alemanes; además de las entrevistas que hace a los sobrevivientes.
No obstante no es un libro árido ni fragmentado, tiene el ritmo de una novela y se lee con interés que no decae hasta que se termina la última página. En suma, otro de los apasionantes libros de Anthony Beevor que recomiendo a todo aquel que quiera enterarse un poco más de los principales hechos del siglo pasado.
