The Myth of Religious Violence book cover
The Myth of Religious Violence
Secular Ideology and the Roots of Modern Conflict
William T. Cavanaugh - 2009-09-03
Рейтинг Goodreads
This book challenges the idea that religion promotes violence in Western society. William T. Cavanaugh examines how the categories of religion and the secular are constructed and argues that there is no transcultural essence of religion. He suggests that the concept of religion as non-rational and prone to violence is a myth used to legitimate neo-colonial violence against non-Western countries, particularly the Muslim world.

@DaveHerroon Very few conflicts are actually *about* religion. Religion is used to construct narratives of conflict, after the conflict has already been seeded. Here's a great book on that:      источник
